Too Many Friends To Count

According To Jessica...

is a blog about things that I love, things that I find funny, things that inspire me and things that I want to shamelessly complain about but don't actually want any feedback or advice on.

First and foremost, I love Jesus.

I've been married for almost 10 years and we have 3 messy, smelly, dirty boys. I love my kids. Love, love, love them. But 85% of the time, I want to be away from them. (And it's really 90% of the time, but I thought 85% sounded better.) I am a real Mom. I don't pack snacks and plan playdates. At the end of the day, if no one's bleeding and everyone has had at least 2 meals, I consider it a win. (Everybody's hands go up!!!) I depend on coffee the way most people depend of electricity. I classify cereal an acceptable dinner. I single-handly have kept the good people of the Sumner Fred Meyer across the street employed by the amount of money we spend on groceries. I have wasted hours neglecting my household and children working on this blog. I believe Jessica Simpson shoes are more important than routine oil changes. I am a bit of a clothes whore. Some people collect stamps, some collect antique dolls...I collect clothes. My husband wakes up in the morning and reads the newspaper. I wake up in the morning and read The Possessionista. I have the best intentions and very poor follow through. I have an outstanding track record of losing and/or breaking electronic devices. I often forget that I am Asian. And last but not least, if I had to choose between Happy Hour at Stanley & Seaforts and a Free People Maxi Dress...I would karate chop the person making me choose and take both.

*Disclaimer* If you are looking for a Mommy Blog to give you great advice on making your own organic food or creating craft projects for rainy days...look elsewhere. In fact, let me just help you out now. The "Unfollow" button is at the top of the page.

Sea Spray. Who’d-a-thunk? I’ve recently discovered this Sea Spray by Paul Mitchell and love it. I want my roots to feel like 1st Day Hair, but my ends to feel like 3rd Day Hair. This stuff does the trick and smells even better. Give it a try and let me know what ya think!

I FINALLY FOUND IT!

I’ve been on the hunt for that perfect peach blush for the better part of a year. I’ve Googled, tested, bought and returned multiple blush colors. I’ve tried everything from Nordstrom to Walgreens and have all but pulled my hair out (and drained my wallet) to find this blush. And I’m so excited to have finally found it.

NARS Blush in Orgasm

It’s a beautiful peachy blush, with a teeny, tiny bit of gold shimmer. Don’t believe me? Go to Sephora and test it out. I’ve seen it on all skin types…from Kim Kardashian to Giuliana Rancic to… Okay, so maybe 1 skin type. Never mind. Scratch that.

All I know, is that when I look back on 2012, I’ll remember the Presidential Election, Kristen Stewart cheating on Robert Pattinson and that I finally found Peach Blush.

I have to take a minute and brag about my hair.

I don’t know if you know this, but I currently hold the World Record for Most Split Ends. Between all the bleaching, curling and the fact that I’m trying to grow it out LONG, it makes for some damaged hair. And I mean, damaged.

The last time I went and saw my stylist, we decided to try ombre. And I love it. But it really took a toll on my ends. They hate me. My hair doesn’t really curl. It doesn’t hold. And it doesn’t even look good knotted on top of my head, because now with ombre, it just looks like I have a fake blonde bun pinned to my neck.

But the other day I came across this blog and she had really cute hair. It was curled, but not super curled. She had recently done a post on how she curls her hair and I read it and didn’t think it sounded too hard. So I tried it.

And I’m going to send her a basket of Mini-Muffins, that’s how great my hair looks.

I think the trick was a smaller curling iron. I’ve been using a 2incher. And when she said she used a 3/4”, I laughed in her face. (Or at least, in the picture of her face on the blog.) But low and behold, the curls actually stay much better. (I did move up to a 1” just because my hair was holding it so well, it looked a little Shirley Temple.) But the fact that it held has me doing the Happy Dance. She was also using more hairspray than I’m used to using…but if it stays, I will create an extra line item in my monthly budget just for hairspray. I’m just using Fructis. Nothing special.

I’m thinking I can get about 2 days worth of good, solid, use outta this. So, the moral of the story, is every once in awhile it’s worth reading those tutorials.

How beautiful does Audrina Patridge look in this makeunder by xojane? I’ve always thought she was stunning, and these are probably my favorite pics of her. Love it!

Five Favorite Nail Polish Colors:

1. Commander in Chic Best color ever. It literally goes with anything. And it’s super neutral and goes from both winter to spring. I usually buy this color in bulk.

2. Pat on the Black You might be thinking, this is a little too “goth” for me. But you’d be surprised how classy dark, dark purple nail polish can be. It works for both weekends and the work week. If I know I’m going on vacation and won’t get a manicure in for a few weeks, I always go with this color. Plus, it’s easy to do little touch-ups.

Photobucket

3. Kook-A-Mango This tangerine color makes me happy. It’s the epitome of spring and color! Orange is such a hot color this year and it looks great with navy’s, olive greens, yellows and your neutrals.

4. Back to the Fuchsia I would be lying if I didn’t put a bright, over the top, slightly offensive, pink somewhere in this mix. This color also looks amazing on your toes!

Photobucket

5. Gray by Gray Yep. This color is a must have. I adore the color gray. Not only on my nails, but also in my house. This is my favorite color gray…not too light…not too dark. It almost has a blue-ish tint to it.

Five Things In My Purse At All Times:

1. iPhone I always have it. But a few times, when I’ve accidentally left it at home, it’s been nice to be without it. When we go camping we have an unofficial ceremony of leaving our phones in the van. It’s very liberating.

2. Lip Gloss MAC Clear Lipglass to be exact.

3. Food I would like to say I carry food and snacks because I’m a mom to 3 boys. But let’s be honest. They’re usually for me.

4. Smart Water I’ve never really been able to taste a difference in water…until I tried Smart Water. It’s made from clouds and I can totally taste a difference. Plus, I like the pictures of the little animals inside the bottle.

5. Perfume I love smelly things. My spring scent of late has been Bath & Body Works Pink Chiffon. LOVE. It’s sweet, but not sickening sweet. Totally recommend!

Went with the ombré. Anna talked me into it.

I think I’m ready for spring and this orange-red lipstick.

Friday Check In

Obsessing Over: Hot. Yoga. Oh my word. I think I’m addicted. I took my 2nd class today at the gym and it went so much better. I love it. I felt amazingly great afterwards. And today, it was even better because not only did I stay in the room the entire time, but I actually did the entire class. (They tell you just to lay down on the floor if you start to get too hot, tired or dizzy.) I made it the whole way through tonight. And it’s true what they say: it’s all about the breathing.

Working On: Getting the hang of Adobe InDesign. We bought the Creative Pack and now it’s time to learn the programs. They’re insane. Like…I know that people go to school to learn these and I’m pretty much “Self-Taught, No Lessons” but I think I’m going pretty good. So far, I’ve just been designing the Welcome Pages for 3 of our newest clients. If you have any tips or want to be my Adobe Mentor…message me. Seriously.

Thinking About: My hair. I have an appointment tomorrow with the best stylist ever. I’ve decided that I need a little lightness in my hair. Maybe it will bring some summer on. Thought for about 2 seconds about doing the Ombre’. But then decided that I didn’t want to pay to look like I need to go back to hair salon only 45 seconds after I left. I’m going to jump on Pinterest to try and get inspired before tomorrow. When I don’t go in with a good idea, is when I leave with bangs and red hair. True story.

Anticipating: The Oscars. I love awards season. I’d always much rather see the music award shows because they have better performances. But I LOVE the fashion for the Oscars. These were my favorites from last year. (Yes, it’s all Anne Hathaway. Duh.) Can’t wait to see some of my favorite actresses and what they come up with!

Listening To: I’m catching up on episodes of Parenthood. So it’s playing in the background. If you haven’t seen the show, it’s available on Netflix. I totally recommend it. You won’t be disappointed. And if you are…hey…I didn’t write it.

Drinking: A Yoplait Triple Berry Smoothie made by Huz. He had it all ready for me when I got home. Yes, I’m spoiled. No, you can’t have him.

Confession #3724

I think I may tell Huz that I am a fairly popular beauty blogger and that women around the world* are dependent on my reviews for mascara, foundation, blushes, lipsticks, etc.

And then go shopping.

My Favorite Color This Spring: Orange Tangerine.

I’m obsessed. I want to buy everything in this beautiful orange color. And not just clothes or accessories. I’m talking curtains, iPhone case, paint, lipstick, whatever. If I can find a perfume in an orange bottle, I’d buy that too, regardless of what it smells like. Lol!

The beautiful dresser is from Emily A. Clark’s blog.

It just looks like spring. And I could use a little spring.

I finally decided to go ahead and try eyelash extensions. And so far…I love them.

They look more natural than my fake eyelashes. And while they’re not AS dramatic…its easier just to swipe a cost of mascara over them in the morning and go. No more messing with glue! The upkeep is a little more work and washing my face takes a little more concentration (so I don’t yank them out) but overall, I just like them better.

I hate that I often forget that I am wearing makeup and rub my eyes. Thus, rubbing off my eyebrows.

It’s pretty hard to tell here but my hair is dark again. I needed the change. I compare it to Katy Perry. She had dark, beautiful hair and did amazing, dramatic things with her makeup. And she could get away with it. But now that her hair is lighter and almost blonde…it’s too much. In my opinion, she’ll either need to tone down the makeup and fuchsia lipstick or darken her hair again. I’m pretty sure none of my advice will be taken; that’s just my 2 cents.

Life Lessons & Engraved MAC Eyeliner

This last weekend was our Annual MAC Makeup Appointments. And when I say, “Annual” I mean, it was our 2nd year in a row. :) We always have so much fun though, I’m sure we’ll do it again next year.

Before we went, I Google’d some photos of celebrities whose makeup I love. I really didn’t have a specific look in mind. I didn’t care if it was a glam or natural or goth look. I was just going for something different. A change and a new look. I get tired of reaching for the same Engraved MAC Eyeliner. Every. Single. Morning.

My makeup artist was super fun. Her name was Alyson and she was great. We decided to go Old Hollywood Glam…with very low-key eyes and bright, fun lips.

When she finished my look, I loved it. Really, truly, loved it. I thought she did an amazing job. I like changing things up and I think I have the personality to be able to wear bright lips and fake eyelashes. (At least, I hope. Because I’ve been doing that for 7+ years.)

But when I got home, I was putting my things away, and noticed myself in the mirror. And I had to do a double take. I didn’t like it. My eyes weren’t right, my foundation looked a little too light, my face was oily (oilier than normal) and my eyebrows were ALL wrong.

And a light bulb went off in my little Asian head.

Even at 30 years old, I’m still learning that I should just be who I am. Be who I am! It’s so simple! And it may sound so silly, but really it all boils down to this: Be yourself. Be who are you. Embrace it.

I am faux eyelashes and Engraved black eyeliner and earth toned eye shadow and soft pigment and Johnson’s Baby Powder and lots of contour and rose blush and nude lipstick and clear gloss.

Yes, every once in awhile, I love to change it up. I’ll whip out my fuchsia lip gloss and silver sparkle eye shadow. I think that’s great.

But it all comes back to this: I am who I am, no one else can be me and I couldn’t live without my Engraved MAC Eyeliner.
